North Carolina Service-Learning Coalition Fall Workshop for PK-20 Educators
Featuring: Sanjli Gidwaney of Design for Change, USA

Are you an educator who FEELS students need to be more engaged in their education and community? Do you IMAGINE a way to make it better? Would you like to DO something about it? Come SHARE your story and gain tools to empower your students to design solutions to issues they care about in their communities.

The fall NCSLC workshop is offered in partnership with Design for Change, a global movement of educators and youth who are using the tools of design thinking to create solutions to issues in their communities. The Design for Change process is creative, fun, and empowering for all involved. The half-day workshop will walk educators and students through the Design for Change process so you leave ready to use it in your own community. The event will also provide an excellent regional service-learning networking opportunity for educators and students throughout North Carolina.

Where will the event take place?

3 locations across North Carolina:

  • Western Workshop: 
    Lenoir-Rhyne University Center for Graduate Studies, Asheville
  • Central Workshop:
    James B. Hunt Jr. Library NCSU, Raleigh – Duke Energy Room C/D (second floor of library)
  • Eastern Workshop: 
    UNC Wilmington, Wilmington – McNeill 1051

How much does the workshop cost? 
Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students and Vistas.

Where can I find driving directions and parking information for the event?

Western Workshop:
The Lenoir-Rhyne University Center for Graduate Studies is located at 36 Montford Avenue (Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce).

Parking information: Free parking is available behind the center.

Central Workshop: 
The James B. Hunt Jr. Library is located on Centennial Campus.

(visitor tag = $10/ day). Hourly parking is available in the Poulton Paylot across the street from the first floor entrance to the Hunt Library. Parking fees are $2/hour. Parking spots are numbered, and there is a pay station that accepts debit and credit cards only (no cash).

(This site has information about free visitor parking, which is a brief walk, and the parking deck, which is for pay, but right across the street from location.)

Will lunch be provided?
Lunch will not be provided.  There will be light refreshments for snacking.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, you do not need to bring a printed ticket to the event.
