NCSLC Vice-Chair

Melissa Lyon, Fayetteville State University

Ms. Melissa L. Lyon received her M.A. in Sociology from Fayetteville State University in 2007. Ms. Lyon is currently the Service-Learning Program Manager within the Fayetteville State University’s Office of Civic Engagement and Service Learning. Ms. Lyon has been involved with the development and growth of service-learning at Fayetteville State University since 2009. This office assists with the facilitation of service-learning classes across multiple academic disciplines.

Ms. Lyon has been involved with the NC Service-Learning Coalition since the beginning when Communities in Schools NC brought together North Carolina Learn and Serve America grant recipients after the announcement of the loss of funding to discuss how to keep service-learning going strong in NC without these funds. It has been interesting to learn about the various forms and venues for service-learning across North Carolina for all students PK-12, higher education, and with community organizations.
